A beverage line almost never fails without notice. Bearings, seals, belts and guides give warnings first — sometimes for weeks. The crews who replace parts on schedule, or at the first sign, replace one part. The crews who wait replace the part, the mating part it chewed up, and the shift it stopped.
Here are the five signs we hear about most from maintenance teams running KRONES, SIDEL and KHS equipment.
1. New noise — especially rhythmic noise
A bearing that has started to whine, click or growl is already damaged; the question is how much life is left. Rhythm matters: a noise that repeats once per revolution points at a bearing, roller or gear tooth. A noise that appears only under load points at belts and tensioners.
What to check: roller bearings on conveyors and star wheels, drive belts and their tension pulleys, gear wheels on crate packers. Do not wait for the noise to become heat.
2. Leaks and weeping seals
An O-ring that weeps once will fail completely — the material has already taken a set, or the surface it runs on has worn. Watch filler valve stems, glue pumps on labelers, and any pneumatic cylinder that now needs its regulator turned up to do the same work.
What to check: O-rings and seal kits first, then the mating shaft or bore. Replacing a seal against a scored surface just makes the next leak come faster.
3. Drift — the machine needs re-adjusting more and more often
If an operator re-cents a guide, re-times a capper head or nudges a label sensor every shift, a wear part is quietly losing its dimension. Guides, rails, star wheels and cams wear slowly, and drift is how that wear becomes visible.
What to check: guide rails and strips, cam discs, star wheels, and mounting brackets that may have worn slots.
4. Wear debris where it should not be
Shiny metal dust under a chain guard, black rubber dust under a belt drive, blue-grey paste near a bushing — each points at a specific family of parts. Debris is late-stage wear: the part is now machining its partner.
What to check: chains and wear strips (white plastic debris), belt pulleys and toothed belts (rubber), bushes and bearings (metal). Replace in pairs where a worn part has been running against another.
5. Quality drift at the end of the line
Labels creeping out of position, caps with inconsistent torque, underfilled bottles at the same filler head. Before blaming the machine, check the wear parts that set position and pressure: grippers, seals in the filler valve, clutch and brake facings on cappers.
What to check: container grippers and back guides, filler valve seals and springs, capper clutch plates.
How to turn a sign into an order
When you have identified the family, find the part by the number on its housing, the drawing, or the machine spare-part list:
Or send us the number — we confirm compatibility, price and lead time within one business day.
